Lottie London The Rusts Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

UK-based makeup brand Lottie London just launched at Ulta last month, and since I love discovering new products (especially affordable ones!), I picked up a few products to try including The Rusts Eyeshadow Palette ($12.99). From the photos online, it looked like it could be a possible dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette and I've been getting tons of requests for a comparison (which is at the end of this post).

But first things first, let's take a closer look at The Rusts Palette!

The Rusts comes in a clear plastic compact that feels sturdier than I thought it would be. It doesn't come with a mirror...it's very basic, no-frills packaging, but it does come with a double ended brush/sponge-tipped applicator. Unfortunately it's not the best quality so I probably wouldn't use it unless I was in a pinch and didn't have any other brushes with me.

Inside are twelve eyeshadows, with a mix of matte and shimmer finishes. The shades are mostly warm-toned but there are a few cooler ones as well.

The formula didn't really wow me as a lot of the shades didn't show up well on bare skin without primer.  The powders feel very soft to the touch, but they're more powdery vs. creamy and the color payoff just isn't there. 

Over primer, they did fare much better, but a few of the lighter shades still struggled to show up even on my pale skin.

As I said above, I originally thought that this might be a dupe for the new Naked Heat palette from Urban Decay, but when I saw them side-by-side, I realized that the Naked Heat is much warmer and deeper in tone. The few cooler-toned shades in the Lottie London palette really stand out in comparison and make it look a lot less warm-toned than it did on its own.

When I look at the swatches side-by-side, I feel like the deeper shades in the Lottie London palette look similar to Naked Heat, but the lighter side of The Rusts with its cooler pink and gray shades is where they start to look a lot different. Also, the quality is vastly different between the two palettes so I wouldn't call this a dupe. 

Overall, I wasn't too impressed by The Rusts palette. I feel like drugstore eyeshadows have gotten so much better over the years and can rival some high-end brands but this one reminds me of the old school drugstore formulas.
