L.A. Girl Eye Lux Eyeshadow Review
I recently spotted the new L.A. Girl Eye Lux eyeshadows at Ulta and while I don't normally gravitate toward quads (I usually go for larger palettes) I've been seeing great reviews for these on YouTube, so my interest was piqued.
They come in six different shade combinations and are $5.99. I ended up choosing more neutral-toned palettes since that's what I would wear most often, but there are several more colorful options.

Each quad has a mix of matte and shimmer shades and the formula is very soft and buttery. I find them to be easy to work with and they blend very nicely on my eyes. There is a bit of fallout due to the softness of the powders but tapping my brush first solves that issue.

I really love the color selection within each palette...I think L.A. Girl really chose the perfect coordinating shades so that you can create a complete eye look without having to dip into another palette.

The first one I chose is called Idolize and it contains cooler-toned nude shades. There's a matte beige for your browbone highlight, a shimmery bronze and shimmery gray for the lid, and a matte brown that's almost black that works beautifully on the outer corner or along the lash line.

The next quad I chose was Eternalize and this one is probably my favorite of the two. It has a matte cream for a browbone highlight, shimmery rose gold for the lid, matte burgundy for the crease, and a matte mauvey-brown that makes a great transition shade.

As I was swatching them, I started to see some similarities between their shades and my Tartelette and Tartelette in Bloom palettes from Tarte. So of course, I had to pull those out and do some comparisons!

Eternalize definitely has some similar shades to the Tartelette in Bloom...in fact, they're the four shades I tend to use the most from that palette! That's really awesome because it's kind of like having a little travel version of my favorite shades. They're not exact dupes but they give off a very similar vibe once they're on your eyes.

Similarly, I thought the cooler tones of the Idolize palette reminded me of the original Tartelette palette and it turns out, there are four very close dupes. The only difference being that the Tartelette palette is all-matte while Idolize has two shimmer shades.

Overall, these are great little palettes to try if you're looking for something you can just throw in your purse or into a travel bag and have a complete eye look ready to go. The formula is also great, especially for the price!

Available now at Ulta.com (and at select Ulta stores).

  1. I won't be purchasing these (I tried LA Girl years ago and did not like at all -- plus, I'm done with drugstore cosmetics and/or Made in China products -- but I have to say that you do the best swatches! -- Christina D.

    1. Aw thanks Christina! :) I agree, I'm not a fan of products made in China but all the good reviews had my interest piqued on these. I do like them a LOT better than the Beauty Brick palettes L.A. Girl used to have...they seem to have changed up their formula a bit. These are much softer and more pigmented. :)

  2. I bought a few of these after seeing Tati (GlamLifeGuru) talk about them and they are awesome! I ended up getting Tranquilize with the turquoise shade and Glamourize which is more purple, but I'm in love with your swatches of Eternalize. It looks much more interesting when swatched than it did in the pan. Great post!

    1. Thanks Nadia, I'm so glad you liked it! I completely agree, I was second guessing myself for choosing "boring" shades but Eternalize is definitely way prettier than it originally looked. :)

  3. I am so excited after seeing this post! I've been super interested in those four colors in the Tartelette in Bloom palette for what seems forever, but I never could bring myself to pay that much money for only a few shades. The Eternalize palette seems like a wonderful solution! I know the quality will probably be a little less, but the price will be a LOT less, so I'll be happy either way. Thank you, thank you!! :)

    1. Hi Jana, that's exactly how I feel about it too...those are the four shades I use the most in my Tarte palette. I'm sure you can tell by the swatches that the Tarte ones are a little more pigmented but over a primer, the L.A. Girl ones will probably hold their own just fine. :)

    2. I forgot to add that I even like the rose gold shade from the Eternalize palette more than the bronze shade (Firecracker) in the Tartelette in Bloom palette. :)

  4. I was thinking the same thing about that shimmer shade! I like the looks of the rose gold one better. :)
