Maybelline Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner Review & Swatches

2
I've always been a big fan of Maybelline's lip products, so of course I couldn't wait to try the new Color Sensational Lip Liners when I heard they were coming out. I picked up a few shades when they first launched in stores and planned to review them here on the blog, but then Maybelline generously offered to send me all of the shades to try, which is even better! So I held off until I could have all thirteen colors to swatch for you guys.

Let's take a look!

Description/Details:
Easily define your lip shape with this creamy Maybelline Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner. Coordinate your lip look with matching Color Sensational Lip Colors or create bold definition by lining your lips in a darker shade. The lip options are endless!

Where to Buy: Drugstores, Target, Ulta Beauty

Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liners come in thirteen beautiful shades plus there is also a clear shade that you can use to outline your lips and keep your lipstick (or gloss) from feathering or bleeding beyond your lip line. They're packaged in a twist-up mechanical pencil format with a built-in sharpener at the base of the pencil (love that!).

I find the size of these pencils to be just right for outlining my lips very precisely, yet I can also fill them in without a lot of effort. They're creamier than a lot of other lip liners I've tried, yet they're not so creamy that they don't stay put. As much as I hate dry lip products, when it comes to liners, I prefer them to be on the slightly stiffer side so that they last and don't smudge or bleed. I think these are a great middle ground of being creamy but still long-lasting.

I absolutely love the color range here and I think they did a fantastic job with choosing the shades. As I've been using them, I've found that many of the shades are very versatile and I use them over and over again with lots of different lip products. For example, Nude Whisper is one of my go-to's...it's so neutral and pairs well with any of my pinky-nude lipsticks or glosses. I also use Magnetic Mauve and Dusty Rose with a lot of my rosy pink lipsticks and they're just perfect!

The shades are also nicely pigmented with one swipe. I don't find that I have to go back over a line again once I've drawn it.

Here are some of the liners paired with some of the Maybelline lipsticks I have in my collection. Born With It and Warm Me Up are the Color Sensational Lipsticks (two of my favorite lipsticks ever), Toasted Truffle and Rich Ruby are part of the Matte Lipstick Collection (so creamy and comfortable for matte lipsticks!), and Berry Bossy is one of the Loaded Bolds.

Overall, I definitely recommend checking out the new Maybelline Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liners! They're affordable, the colors are very rich and pigmented and they're very long-lasting yet creamy.

  1. I have Magnetic Mauve and Nude Whisper and use them every single day! I'm happy you swatched these because I've been planning to get more but wasn't sure which. Now I think I need Wild Violets and Totally Toffee. If I'm not mistaken, I think Tati talked about the Toffee one in one of her videos and I made a mental note to buy it and then forgot!

  2. These are lovely. Very similar to the new WnW gel lip liners but more colors which is always good. I need to jot down the ones I have and buy the rest.. they are that good.
