maybelline master chrome highlighter review
Even though I have way too many highlighters and have stopped buying high-end versions all together, I couldn't resist trying the new Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter ($9.99 at Ulta.) I guess it was mostly out of curiosity...I wondered about the formula and if it could be a dupe for some of my higher-end golden highlighters.

Maybelline claims that the Master Chrome highlighter is "infused with reflective pigments" for a bold glow and a "warm metallic sheen". They also claim that it's a soft powder formula that gives a seamless application.

Just looking at the shade in person once it arrived in the mail, I realized that the deep golden color would be too dark for my fair skin. But then I figured I can always use it as an eye shadow if the formula was right.

When I swatched Master Chrome for the first time, I was blown away by the soft feel and intense pigmentation. It went on like liquid metal, and my photos don't even do it justice. All I kept thinking was...why doesn't Maybelline make their eye shadows out of this formula?! My swatch below is one quick swipe in the pan, and one swipe on my arm. It went on effortlessly and reminded me of the Becca highlighter formula, but even softer. That being said, it does kick up a lot of powder.

When I compared Master Chrome to my other golden highlighters, I couldn't believe how much shinier it was! I always thought Becca's Champagne Pop and Anastasia's So Hollywood were really bright highlighters but next to the Master Chrome, they actually look kind of dull!

Overall, if you have a medium to deep skin tone and love shiny, bright highlighters, you won't be disappointed with the new Maybelline Master Chrome! The formula feels very high-end and goes on beautifully.

Available now at Ulta.com (I got mine at Amazon.com but it's sold out).

  4. Fantastic comparison swatches, one of the many reasons I love your blog! This is definitely too gold for my skin tone (fair) but I love how bright and shiny it is and I hope they come out with some lighter shades for fall.

  5. I absolutely am in love with this highlighter and the wet n wild highlighters! I didn't know that drugstore highlighters can be this amazing! I just did fall make-up lessons so I try to practice a lot to improve my skill. They also came out with a rose gold one a few weeks ago, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
