Born This Way Foundation
($39 at Ulta, Sephora, TooFaced.com)
Where has this foundation been all my life??? I really regret not trying it sooner because it's amazing and completely worth the hype. It goes on so smooth and looks like a second skin with a really natural finish. It sinks right in without feeling like it's sitting on top and it doesn't cling to my dry patches or accentuate pores.
The medium coverage gives me just enough to even everything out and it makes me look flawless...it also held up beautifully throughout the day. It looks great whether I apply it with a beauty blender, flat-top foundation brush, or even my fingers, which is rare. A lot of foundations I try can apply well one way but not the other...this one doesn't seem to have a learning curve, it looks great no matter what.
I chose the shade Nude (Light with Neutral-to-Pink Undertones) but as it turns out, it's just a shade too dark for my skin. I'll probably go with Vanilla next time which has the same undertones but is for Fair-to-Light skin. For now I can definitely make this shade work, especially in the summer when my skin naturally gets a little bit of color anyway.
Natural Love Eyeshadow Palette
When the Natural Love palette launched back in March, there was still snow on the ground here in CT so even though I thought it was beautiful, I wasn't in the right frame of mind to start thinking about Springtime shades at the time. Fast forward to now and I can't get enough of them...there are so many gorgeous natural looks you can make with this combination of matte and shimmer finishes. The top two rows are cooler in tone and the shades are nicely pigmented and buttery. The only two shades I had a little trouble with were Fairy Tale and Tickle Me which I found to be a bit more flaky with lots of fallout.
The center row is made up of beautiful pastels that I'm having so much fun with right now. I don't often experiment with too much color beyond a neutral eye but these are so easy to wear, especially for my skin tone.
The bottom two rows are warmer-toned shades that could easily carry your looks right into fall. All of these shades had nice pigmentation and a soft, buttery feel, even Night Fever (I was expecting it to feel dry and scratchy like some black shades with glitter tend to be).
Love Light Prismatic Highlighter in Ray of Light
I had to talk myself out of getting these when they first launched because I have sooo many highlighters but now that I have one, I have to say I really love the formula. It's one of the smoothest highlighters in my collection and the shimmer is so refined, it gives the most natural glow to your skin without looking like you're obviously wearing highlighter. Ray of Light is a stunning rose gold shade and I don't have any other shades like it...I think it would suit a variety of skin tones as it's not too light or too deep.
If you love a more natural highlighter (like I do), you'll love these...they're not one of those in-your-face blinding highlights, it just gives a lit-from-within glow.
To finish off my look, I layered two coats of Better Than Sex mascara on my lashes and added a pop of color to my cheeks with the Love Flush blush in Love Hangover. Then I added the original Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Nude and I was good to go!
I love the fresh, natural look I got using all of these products and I got lots of compliments from family that I saw later that day. They were especially impressed with how the foundation looked since it's so natural-looking...they said my skin looked flawless.
What are your favorite products from Too Faced? I'd love to hear about them in the comments below! :)
*Disclosure: Some of the products featured in this post were sent to me complimentary from Too Faced Cosmetics, but all opinions are 100% my own.
I'm also really enjoying the Natural Love palette. Like you, I didn't purchase it when it first came out (I was on a no-buy) but after a month or so I couldn't resist any more. TF makes some of my favorite eyeshadows! Also you convinced me on the Born This Way. I keep hearing all the beauty bloggers I follow raving about it and my skin type is similar to yours so I'm just going to pull the trigger already.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like the Natural Love palette too, Elaine. I hear you...there are so many palettes coming out it's hard to decide which ones to get (can't buy them all!). I hope you're able to try Born This Way...I think you'll really enjoy it! :)
DeleteDo you have a recommendation for a great palette with matte, neutral eye shadows? I do not like the shimmery colors or ones with really dark shadows.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Too Faced Natural Matte palette? It's all neutrals and the shades range from light to medium browns (no grays or blacks). Also, the IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette is another favorite of mine, as well as The Balm's Meet Matt(e) palettes (there are three versions of those).
DeleteI do really like the TF Born this way foundation. I got it in Porcelain when it first came out, because I was pretty fair. I find this brands foundation runs a tad dark. I have nude now, would say I'm light to almost light medium now and its a decent match.
ReplyDeleteI like the palette too. I don't think mine is quiet that pigmented but I could probably build it up.
The hightligthers I feel like are a dud for me. I had the pink one and the gold one. I returned both, couldn't see them on me. Didn't show up at all. I don't know if I'm more of a in your face person or what but I wasn't impressed.
I love this look you created. So natural yet very glamorous.
Thank you so much Emily! :) I thought the same thing about the foundation running a little bit dark because I'm usually considered a "light" shade and almost never have to go into the "fair" shades but I think I'll have to in this case! As far as the highlighters, I don't usually like to really see them on my face...I like them to look very subtle and only be noticeable when the light hits my face a certain way. Now that I'm older, I have some texture on my cheeks and brighter highlighters tend to emphasize that (but these don't). If you like your highlighters to show up more, I can see why you weren't crazy about these though. :)
DeleteYou look gorge as always! I don't have this palette but damn, it looks so pretty especially now that it's summertime. My resolve is weakening!
ReplyDeleteAw thank you so much Lisa! I really liked the way my eyes came out with this palette, although it's only noticeable when I either blink or look down, due to my hooded eyes. :(
DeleteDefinitely a great "natural, but better" look. I love it when you post pictures of yourself with the makeup on your face; the swatches are good for pigmentation demo, but seeing the overall styling is VERY helpful.
ReplyDeleteI've used L'Oreal True Match for over a decade since I'm ridiculously pale and it is hard to find foundations light enough so I don't look like I'm wearing a mask. I may go ahead and give this one a try, although Emily's feedback that it runs dark makes me think I may not be lucky enough to find a good shade. Never know until I test it, though!
I'm so happy it helps to see more photos of the overall look and I'll definitely try to do it more often. :) Also, Born This Way does seem to run a little dark but the good news is, they do have a few really light shades like Snow and Pearl. The shade I chose is actually 6th from the lightest so there's a lot of room to go down in the color range.
