Just for fun, here's what they used to look like...anyone remember these?
Anyway, Tarte's new fragrance is called Sweet Tarte ($24) and Urban Decay's is called Go Naked ($24) and I couldn't wait to try them both and compare them for you guys. Let's take a look!
Tarte Sweet Tarte Fragrance
($24 for 8.5 ML at TarteCosmetics.com)
Fragrance notes:
- Top: orange, mandarin, passion fruit & berry
- Heart: passion fruit, lychee, gardenia & vanilla
- Base: vanilla, cedarwood, sandalwood & musk
I purchased this because I was hoping it would smell just like their palettes and to some degree, it does. It's very vanilla, and that's mostly what I smell considering they included it in both the heart notes and the base notes. But I also detect the fruits a little bit when I first put it on, so it's not a straight-up vanilla scent. On my skin, it almost takes on a powdery "baked goods" kind of scent...case in point, I came down wearing this one morning and my four year old son said, "Mommy, you smell like donuts!". I guess there could be worse things to smell like. :)
If you like sweet, gourmand fragrances, I think you'll really like this one!
Urban Decay Go Naked Perfume Oil
($24 for 5ML at Sephora.com)
Fragrance Notes:
Top: Italian bergamot, petitgrain, mandarin, and lemon, with orange blossom and neroli.
Base: Lavender, jasmine, and musk.
This one claims to smell like "sun-warmed skin and salt air on a private beach" and I sort of agree with that since it reminds me a little of Bobbi Brown's Beach and Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino. The problem is, I don't like either one of those scents and sadly, I didn't like this one either. I purchased it during the VIB Rouge Preview event and put it on in the car for the ride home after hearing lots of YouTubers raving about it. I ended up with a headache and a nauseated feeling and couldn't wait to wash it off! It's very floral, a little musky, and on me it smells like bug spray. I know that everyone's chemistry is different but my skin doesn't like certain florals and these must be it! I tend to gravitate toward beachy scents that are sweeter, with some coconut or vanilla at the base to ground the florals but this one is much too airy with no sweetness to balance it out.
Final Thoughts
If I had to sum up these two fragrances I would say that the Tarte is a very youthful scent (some might even feel like it's geared more toward teens) while the Go Naked is a more mature scent. I definitely prefer the Tarte one since the Urban Decay one made me feel ill, but I'm not even sure I would reach for Sweet Tarte all that often. It's a fun, sweet fragrance but I don't always want to walk around smelling like "donuts" every day, as much as my son would love that (haha!).
Also, scent is a very personal thing so what smells terrible on me might smell great on you and vice-versa. I hope that this post helped out a little bit if you're considering one of these fragrances but ultimately, you'll probably have to try them on your skin and see how they work for you.

Great post! What perfumes or body sprays do you recommend for summer? I'm the same as you and love vanilla and coconut in a summer scent. I can't seem to find the perfect one though. Do you have any recommendations?
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat, it's so hard to find a nice coconut/vanilla perfume! I really like Anna Sui "Sui Dreams" as a soft vanilla scent but it's more for fall than summer. I also got a sample of a perfume from SmellBent.com called "St. Tropez Dispenser" and it's the ultimate tanning oil scent...just a little strong (if it was a tiny bit lighter it would be awesome). Usually I just end up using body sprays and lotions from Victoria's Secret or The Body Shop (both have a coconut one). Anyone else have any suggestions for us? :)
DeleteThank you for this post! I've been wondering about both of these and haven't really seen any reviews. I also like sweeter scents so I might check out the Tarte one.
ReplyDeleteHi Cassie! Yes if you like sweeter scents, you'll probably like the Tarte one. :)
DeleteI'm in the same boat as far as fragrances, I've been LOVING Philosophy Pure Grace Summer Surf. It smells so good and I keep getting compliments on it. So far, 3 people have went out and bought it after smelling it on me. Its beachy without smelling like sunscreen. Try it the next time you are a Ulta, it's fantastic, IMO.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great! I'll have to smell it the next time I'm at Ulta...thanks so much for the tip! :)
