Milani Everyday Eyes Basic Mattes Review & Swatches

5

Last week, I reviewed the new Milani Everyday Eyes Palette in Must-Have Metallics, and now I wanted to share the other new palette they just launched...Basic Mattes.

I purchased it for $11 at MilaniCosmetics.com but it's also popping up at Walgreens stores (that carry Milani), so you can also check there.

Just like its name, this is a palette with all-matte, basic neutral shades. It has everything you would need to create a wearable nude eye, including a cream highlight shade, light taupe, warm medium brown, cool medium brown, deep chocolate brown, and black. It's also made in the U.S.A.

Like all of the Everyday Eyes palettes, this one has fantastic pigmentation that's a pleasant surprise for the price.

When I first saw it, I immediately thought of the Urban Decay Matte Basics Palette (the smaller one) but since I don't have that, I decided to compare it to the UD Ultimate Naked Basics Palette instead.
Just looking at the two palettes side-by-side, they don't look that much alike, but I was able to find several very close dupes. Also, the stock photo of the Urban Decay palette above looks more washed-out than it does in person.
In the swatches below, most of the shades have a close match with the exception of the darkest brown shade in the Milani palette, which I compared to the deep purple shade (Lethal) in the UD palette. Still when you look at them on the skin, they don't look that much different! You can barely tell that one is brown and one is purple.
I'd say the major difference between these two palettes is that the Urban Decay mattes go on a bit smoother and have a silkier feel with less fallout, while the Milani mattes are a bit more on the powdery side (though they do have nice pigmentation).

Overall, this is another solid offering from Milani! If you love matte eyeshadows, this is a really affordable way to grab some nicely pigmented basics.

Available now at MilaniCosmetics.com and in select Walgreens stores.
