Would You Spend $50 on a Drugstore Palette?

14
We all know that drugstore makeup has gotten more expensive in recent years, but NYX has just released the priciest drugstore palettes I've seen yet at Ulta.com! At $49.99 each, they are similar in price to high-end palettes from Too Faced, Anastasia, Urban Decay, and Tarte.

In their defense, these offer a lot more than eyeshadow. All three contain a full face in a palette, including blushes, bronzers, highlight/contour shades, and/or lipsticks. In the past, I've had a pretty bad experience with palettes like this...usually the quality isn't as good, but if these are high-end quality, the price might be justified for some.

Still, I tend to stay away from large palettes like this because they're bulky and I normally don't use half of what's in them. So for me, even if the quality is good, I would probably rather spend the money on a smaller high-end palette or on several different drugstore products.

What do you guys think? Would you spend $50 on a drugstore palette? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. No freakin' way would I ever spend $50 on NYX. NEVER. Even though they've improved, they are still drugstore products and not even in the same universe as the palettes that justify a $50 price tag. And can I just remind everyone: NYX is made in China! I would never pay $50 for a Made in PRC palette and that goes for any brand. -- Christina D.

    1. Well spoken. China does not have the quality control of other countries. So who knows what's in their products. I too steer clear of beauty products made in China.

    2. Well said. I will not buy beauty products made in China either.

    3. I hate that they're made in China because they have some really great products. And the excuse that it's cheaper to produce over there doesn't fly with me because brands like Jordana and Milani produce in the USA and they're even less expensive than NYX and have awesome products.

  2. Tbh, I'm very skeptical with full face palettes like these. The quality isn't good and it's very difficult to match your shade. There is no way I would spend $50 on a drugstore palette, let alone this type of pallete.

  3. No way. These look like $19.99 Christmas gifts for the tweener in your life. Nyx has some great products but $50? Nope.

  4. This is tough, because two of the three color schemes have my interest; plus you could argue that with added blush and bronzer it would be much more product than for example a Too Faced palette (sorry to keep picking on them). However, the elephant in the room is that Nyx is still considered drugstore and it just feels 'wrong' to consider buying a 50 dollar palette from them. Even if they eventually offer it at bogo 1/2 off it still averages out to 35.50 per palette, a bit high. I don't think this will sell very good.

    1. That's how I feel too...you said it perfectly Nikole! Even if the quality is good and you're getting a ton of product it just seems strange to pay that for a "drugstore brand". I would much rather get a smaller palette from a high-end brand anyway since I doubt I would ever use up a huge palette like these.

  5. I see where NYX is trying to go with this, but I just cannot bring myself to buy this monstrosity of a palette, even if it only cost me $10. It just screams "Christmas palette for teens" to me. Don't get me started on how the bronzers are too dark for real life. This one is an easy automatic pass.

  6. Nope. I rather haul several different drugstore products for $50 than those palettes. I'm not even into high end at that price unless its skincare.

  8. If someone said the quality is excellent I would pay that price. But I would want good performance for drugstore brands at that price.

  9. Definitely not. This looks like kiddie makeup.
