New Brand at Walgreens | C.Y.O. Cosmetics

4

Walgreens is on a roll with bringing us new, affordable brands lately and the most recent arrival is a super affordable line from C.Y.O. Cosmetics. According to the C.Y.O website, they offer "insanely versatile makeup that gives you the freedom to create and #MixLayerHack".

Several of the products are multi-purpose such as a blush/lip stain combo, lipstick/lip liner combo, and contour/highlighting stick. The best part is that everything is priced between $3-$7.50 (yes you read that right...even the eyeshadow palettes).

Currently the products are online-only but when I did a store search, I found that my closest local Walgreens will be getting it at some point (currently, the products say, "not in stock" vs. "not carried at this store"). My sources that work at Walgreens have told me that the "Beauty 2000" stores will likely be the only ones to get this line in-store (the ones that have Soap & Glory and No. 7 products).

Check out the full line now and see if your store will be getting it at Walgreens.com

Too Faced Peaches & Cream Collection Available Now

1
The Too Faced Peaches & Cream Collection just launched at Sephora.com and in select Sephora stores (check on the website to see if yours is included...mine isn't!). The collection is permanent and exclusive to Sephora, but that's not to say that certain things won't sell out quickly and possibly take a while to come back in stock. So if there's anything you want, don't hesitate to grab it while you can.

I recently reviewed the Sweetie Pie bronzer, if you're curious about that (see my review here) and I should be getting the Matte Eyeshadow Palette and Peach Blur Powder reviews up soon.

Also, I just posted about the Sephora Weekly Wow and there are a bunch of new coupon codes for freebies with an order, so if you're planning to order anything from Sephora today, don't forget to read that post!

Head on over to Sephora.com to check out the new collection! What's on your list?

Too Faced Sweetie Pie Radiant Matte Bronzer Review & Swatches

Too Faced Sweetie Pie Radiant Matte Bronzer Review & Swatches
The Too Faced Sweetie Pie Radiant Matte Bronzer ($30) officially launches tomorrow at Sephora.com and Sephora stores but I got my hands on one early when they released a small amount on Monday as a preview. To be honest, when I saw photos of the entire collection a while back, this wasn't one of the things on my must-have list. But after playing with it a little bit yesterday, I'm so happy I bought it!

This is really more of a first impressions post since I haven't used it for more than a day and a half, but I wanted to let you know my initial thoughts since the collection launches tomorrow and you might be thinking about buying this.

Let's take a look!

Too Faced Just Peachy Velvet Matte Eyeshadow Palette Available Now!

1
too faced just peachy matte eyeshadow palette
Photo: Sephora.com

The Too Faced Just Peachy Velvet Matte Eyeshadow Palette ($45) has launched one day early on Sephora.com and despite the hit and miss of Too Faced's eyeshadows lately, I ended up grabbing one this morning. I purchased the Sweetie Pie bronzer the other day and am so impressed with it (review coming later today) that I have very high hopes for this palette.

It features 12 eyeshadows in beautiful warm shades of peach, cream, brown, and red. One thing I really love is the thoughtful ombre layout from light to deep across the palette. It makes it easy to create a look going from left to right rather than dipping around a palette trying to find the shade you need next.
Photo: Sephora.com
Shades include:

  • Peach Meringue (ivory)
  • Peach Tea (caramel)
  • Peach Cobbler (toasted peach)
  • Peach Tart (deep brown)
  • Peach Butter (peach cream)
  • Just Peachy (matte peach)
  • Peach Punch (peach daiquiri)
  • Just Ripe (spiced plum)
  • Peaches and Cream (peach sherbet)
  • Fresh-Picked (ginger peach)
  • Peach Sangria (wine)
  • Chocolate Dipped (smoky brown)

This palette will be permanent at Sephora (as well as the entire Peaches and Cream Collection). Will you be picking this one up, passing on it, or waiting for the reviews to come in?

Sneak Peek: NYX In Your Element Palettes

2
Just when I thought that we wouldn't be seeing any major new releases until the Holiday collections drop in a few weeks, NYX Cosmetics previewed 6 new palettes on their Instagram Stories last night. The collection, called In Your Element features themes like Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Metal, and Wind.

The palettes are launching 9/4 at NyxCosmetics.com and at NYX stores, 9/10 at Ulta.com, and 9/24 in Ulta stores. I have my eye on the Earth Palette (above), as the warm neutrals with pops of green are calling my name for fall.

Too Faced Peach Blur Powder Now Available

1
The new Too Faced Peach Blur Translucent Smoothing Finishing Powder ($30) is now available on Sephora.com as part of the early access event for the new Peaches and Cream collection.

Peach Blur is described as "an innovative blurring and finishing powder for a flawless-looking complexion". It contains optical correcting spheres to help smooth the appearance of lines, wrinkes, and other skin imperfections.
Like everything in this collection so far, the packaging is absolutely beautiful! Too Faced creator Jerrod Blandino has stated that this is his favorite product from the entire line.
As I've gotten older, I've stopped wearing an all-over powder on my face most days as I find that it looks too drying but the claims on this have me wanting to  try it!

What do you think? Will you be picking this one up?

New Makeup Monday 8/28/17

5

This week's New Makeup Monday starts off with the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Fall 2017 flyer! The event starts on September 3rd (this coming Sunday) and goes through September 23rd. I don't have the other deals just yet but as soon as I find out about them, I'll post it here on the blog and on social media. I'm not gonna lie...nothing is thrilling me this time around. I guess my wallet is safe for now!

Target's New Beauty Department Overhaul

5

I was just browsing the Makeup Addiction board on Reddit and saw this photo of a newly remodeled Target beauty department (the person who posted the photo ( MotherOfPits ) didn't indicate what city and state it was in). It definitely seems like they're trying to look more like a specialty chain (like Sephora or Ulta) rather than a drugstore.

Here's another shot I found of a Target store in Minneapolis that just completed their renovation:

I'm loving the new look and hope they do my store soon! What do you guys think of the makeover?

Too Faced Sweetie Pie Bronzer Available Now!

2
Too Faced are masters at teasing us with new releases and although the new permanent Peaches & Cream collection doesn't officially launch at Sephora until August 31, they plan to release one product at a time on Sephora.com starting today.

Surprise!

The first product to launch is the new Sweetie Pie Radiant Matte Bronzer ($30). The name might sound like an oxymoron but I think what they're trying to convey is that it isn't too shimmery and it's not a glitter bomb...it's supposed to give a very soft, natural radiance to your skin. I can't tell if the gold shimmer is an overspray but that's also a possibility. Maybe the powder is matte underneath?
There are four shades weaved into the Sweetie Pie Bronzer for a natural, universal warmth:

  • Candied Peach (pink)
  • Caramelized Peach (light brown)
  • Golden Peach (medium brown)
  • Bronzed Peach (dark brown).
I love that they included the pink shade because it makes bronzers look so much more true-to-life if they have a rosy tone in them. When you go out in the sun and get a real tan, especially if you overdo it a little bit, your skin gets that pink flush to it.

I have already placed my order, and it should arrive tomorrow (fingers crossed Rouge shipping comes through for me!) so all of my questions will be answered as far as the finish goes.

What about you...are you picking this one up? Which product do you hope they release next? I'm hoping for the Matte Eyeshadow Palette!

New Skincare Sunday 8/27/17

0
There isn't much newness in the world of skincare this week, but Algenist has some awesome gift sets at Ulta.com right now! Ranging in price from $35 to $75, they allow you to try out a range of their products without splurging on the full sizes. I have my eye on the 10 Days To Sculpt Set ($55) which includes the Elevate Advanced Lift Contouring Cream, Elevate Serum, Elevate Eye Cream, and Gentle Cleanser. I already own the Advanced Lift Contouring Cream and it's amazing. It makes my skin feel like velvet and it truly does seem firmer since using it. The full size jar is $96 so this is a great way to try a generous deluxe size (plus more products in the line) for almost half of that price.

Colourpop Yes Please! Palette Review & Swatches

4
The Colourpop Yes Please! Eyeshadow Palette ($16 at Colourpop.com) has restocked a few times now since its initial launch and I finally got my hands on one. The first time they sold out in a few minutes, so during the next wave I made sure to log in to my account on the site early and was ready the moment it went live. Good thing I did because it was gone again by the time I finished checking out.
And good news! Colourpop is restocking it again today at 10am Pacific (1pm Eastern), so I thought this would be a good time to post my review in case you were interested in this one.

Let's take a look!

I Took The Home DNA Skin Care Test and My Results Are In!

6
I've always hoped that I had good genes when it came to my skin. My parents (who are in their mid-to-upper 60's), definitely look years younger than their chronological age so I have a good start there, but at the same time I have very dry skin (which tends to age faster than average) and I have a major sweet tooth (and studies have shown that sugar can break down the collagen in your skin).

So when I was approached to try the new HomeDNA Skin Care Analysis + Report ($24.99 at CVS stores* plus a $79 lab fee (total $103.99) or $99 online at HomeDNA.com) I jumped at the chance to find the back story on my skin and how to best treat the signs of aging.

New Academy Of Colour Eyeshadow Palettes Spotted at Kohls

1

There are three brand new Academy of Colour Eyeshadow Palettes popping up in Kohl's stores this week, including a Peach version (that smells like peaches), a Metallic version with all metallic finishes, and a Holographic one with smoky holo shades. My pal Alana (@kohlsbeauty1452 on Instagram) posted some photos of these last night when she got them in her store and I couldn't wait to share them with you guys!

You might remember my review of the original Bronze Palette...it was a great deal at only $10.99 and a kinda-sorta dupe for the Kylie Palettes (mostly the packaging!). Then they released a Mulberry version back in June that I haven't gotten around to reviewing yet, but I did post swatches on Instagram here.

These aren't available online yet (only the original one is) but I'm going to try and hunt these down in-store today! These are typically found in the little display by the registers that has all of the travel-sized makeup and rollerball fragrances in it.

What are your thoughts? Have you tried either of the previous versions? Will you be on the hunt for these?

New Makeup Monday 8/21/17

2
It's that time again for New Makeup Monday and while there isn't too much newness to report this week, that's going to change very soon once the Holiday collections start arriving. Still, there are definitely some noteworthy new products to talk about like the new Benefit Punch Pop Liquid Lip Color ($18). They combine vibrant color with a shiny finish and a creamy, non-sticky formula. Available in seven shades.

I'm 39 Years Old, but I Need Tarte's Back To School Brush Set

11
Tarte's Back to School Brush Set has me at hello at only $39. I have a pretty large makeup collection but many of my brushes are older, budget models from brands like e.l.f. and bh Cosmetics...not that there's anything wrong with that of course! I own just one Tarte brush that came in a set on QVC and I've always wanted to try more...I just couldn't justify the price of buying them individually since they usually cost $30+ a piece.

This new set is a great value at $39 and the wood and gold design will definitely elevate the look of my vanity. They're vegan and all full sized, and most of them are double-ended making them great for travel!

Here's what's included:
  • double-ended eyeshadow brush: Flat, dense brush packs on base shadows & fluffy tapered brush blends into the crease

  • powder brush: applies your favorite powder foundations & finishing powders

  • double-ended eyeliner brush: Thin, tapered brush traces a crisp, buildable line & you can use the opposite, flat brush to soften the edges & smudge your look

  • double-ended contour & highlight brush: small, domed brush traces a perfectly controlled contour or highlight & opposite fluffy brush buffs & blends to eliminate harsh lines

  • foundation brush: buffs on cream & liquid foundations

  • double-ended concealer brush: small, tapered brush applies concealer where you want it & fluffy brush blends your look - or you can use it for setting & baking your concealer
Grab yours now at TarteCosmetics.com before it sells out, because I have a feeling it's gonna go quickly!

New Skincare Sunday 8/20/17

1

Happy Sunday everyone! This week there are lots of deals to be had this week in the form of travel kits like this one from Peter Thomas Roth above ($24). It comes with three of his most popular masks in perfect travel sizes so you can try them before you splurge on the full sizes (which are totally worth it by the way!).

Sephora also has lots of new try-me kits, including new-to-store brands like Kiehl's and Laneige. They're all $60 and under and most contain enough products for an entire routine so you can really get a feel for the brand and how the products work together.

Philosophy has six new kits at various price-points, including the Clear Skin in 3 Days set, Bye Bye Blackheads duo, Miracle Worker Duo, and Goodbye Wrinkles kits.

Ulta is now carrying Doctor Lip Bang's Lip Freak Balms in 4 tinted versions and 3 new scents: Pomegranate, Coco-loco Mint, and Psycho Punch. They're all infused with cinnamon essential oil for a buzzy, electric feeling on your lips.
  • Doctor Lip Bang's Lip Balms ($4.95 each at Ulta.com
Dior has just launched their new One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum at Sephora and it's supposed to detoxify your skin from outdoor toxins (sun, pollution) and indoor toxins (carpet, glue, varnishes, and electronic devices). It also boosts the effectiveness of your other skincare products with a superfood cocktail of Vitamin C, Longoza, and Hibiscus.

  • Dior One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum ($100-$158 at Sephora.com)
New from Lancer this week is their Caviar Lime Acid Peel. It contains caviar lime (an Australian fruit high in AHA's) and 10% glycolic acid to exfoliate your skin, plus 10% Phytic Acid to brighten and even out your complexion. If that weren't enough, it also contains Retinol to combat the signs of aging (lines, wrinkles, pores).

New from Pixi Beauty at Target are the Rose Caviar Essence and Rose Flash Balm. The Rose Flash Balm is a 3-in-1 oil-free Instant Skin Booster that can be used as a mask, moisturizer, and makeup primer and it instantly boosts tired skin for a brighter complexion. The Rose Caviar Essence contains encapsulated flower oils that melt into your skin to deliver fresh botanicals that are rich in antioxidants. It's supposed to hydrate, refine, tone, and restore skin's brightness.

  • Pixi Rose Caviar Essence and Rose Flash Balm ($24 each at Target.com)

Simple has just released a new Water Boost line, which includes a Micellar Cleansing Water, Micellar Facial Gel Wash, and Hydrating Booster that all contain minerals and plant extracts. All three products are lightweight, yet hydrating for drier skin types. I purchased the Hydrating Booster at Walgreens the other day and it's a water-light gel that can be applied during your skincare routine to add extra moisture or it can be used just before makeup on dry patches. So far it seems to really help get rid of those dehydration lines on my cheeks, but I'm going to keep using it for a little while before I give my final review.

Finally, Bumble and Bumble haircare has landed at Ulta this week. I've been amazed at how many brands they've been adding that Sephora also carries...it seems like Ulta wants to take over the beauty world!

So that's what's new this week in the world of skincare. Is there anything you have your eye on to try?

Tanya Burr Peachy Glow Cheek Palette Review & Swatches

8
British YouTube guru Tanya Burr has her own line of cosmetics but since it's not sold in the states, I had no idea! I first spotted the products when I was browsing FeelUnique.com, which is a UK based beauty site - one of the few that ships to the U.S.! Everything in her line was so affordable, I decided to add a few things to my cart and ended up getting free shipping since my total was just over $30.

The first thing I couldn't resist trying was the Peachy Glow Cheek Palette ($8.70) because it looks just like the Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow Palette.  You may remember that the Too Faced version faced a bit of criticism because the powders were packed very hard and were difficult to pick up. I happen to own that one as well and I almost never use it for that reason, so I was curious to see if this one was a suitable dupe.

This week's Sephora Weekly Wow is back with select products on sale for 50% off!

This week's edition features the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume 2 palette (which I don't have but might get at this price!), the Smashbox #Shapematters Palette, Perricone MD Cold Plasma Skincare, and Benefit Brow Kits.

Will you be picking anything up this week?

Available at Sephora.com and Sephora stores while supplies last!

Kokie Cosmetics Blush Up Palette Review

0
Affordable beauty brand Kokie Cosmetics arrived at Walmart back in the Spring but none of the Walmart stores near me carry it (such a bummer)! So it's taken me a while to finally try some of their products...for some reason I have no problem ordering expensive products online but when it comes to drugstore I much prefer to go and pick it up in person. I think it's because I don't want to have to pay shipping on an inexpensive item (or have to place a huge order just to meet a minimum).

Anyway, I finally got the chance to try some products from the line and I'm really happy with them overall! My favorite so far has got to be the Blush Up Blush Palette ($9). I got it in the shade Blushing, which has a combination of peach, rose, and coral shades. They actually remind me a little bit of the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trios and I'll compare them at the end of this post.

Lorac Los Angeles Palettes Review & Swatches

12
lorac los angeles palettes
I was browsing around Ulta the other day and noticed that they had just put out the new Lorac Los Angeles Palettes ($24 each). From seeing photos and swatches online, I already knew I wanted to buy the Malibu one, but when I saw them in person and started swatching, I found myself torn between three of the five available shades...Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice Beach.

2 Dupes for the Anastasia Subculture Palette

7
You may have heard all of the recent negative reviews on the Anastasia Subculture Palette, with many beauty gurus claiming that it was too powdery and didn't blend well. I was actually on vacation when it launched and planned to buy it when I returned home, but by the time I did, the bad reviews were starting to pour in so I decided to hold off and see if maybe they'll reformulate.

I Actually Like Wearing Sunscreen Now | Cotz Review

11
I know all-too-well how important it is to wear sunscreen on a daily basis...getting skin cancer at 30 years old wasn't something I ever expected to happen. It was an eye-opening and scary experience and one that I definitely don't want to repeat, and yet I still find myself skipping the sunscreen too often. The main reason is that most formulas are just so...unpleasant to wear. They're thick and sticky and smell weird, leaving my skin with a shiny film that sometimes still shows through my makeup. Even the "dry-touch" formulas have that telltale sunscreen scent and just don't do anything for my skin.

I recently discovered Cotz Face Natural Tinted Sunscreen SPF 40 ($19.99 at Ulta) and it's a total game-changer! It's actually a primer and a sunscreen in one, and it's unlike any other SPF I've tried.
First of all, it's a natural mineral-based sunscreen (vs chemical) with no preservatives, oils, or scent. It has the whipped mousse-like feel of a silicone-based primer and fills in pores and texture beautifully with a soft matte finish (no more shine!). The version I have has a hint of tint which pretty much disappears into my skin when I blend it out (they also have a non-tinted version if you're paler than I am) and I find that while it doesn't add much coverage, the overall texture of my skin looks and feels so smooth and soft, and makeup applies beautifully on top!

If you have oily skin or don't like the thicker feel of a primer, Cotz also makes another version called Flawless Complexion which has more of a lotion-like feel and disappears into the skin with no greasy feel and no scent. I also have that one as well and you honestly don't even know you're wearing it! It's dermatologist-recommended for blemish-prone skin and won't clog pores.

Overall, I'm amazed that more people aren't talking about Cotz, so I really wanted to get the word out there. I've been wearing the Face Tinted Primer for the past week straight and I actually enjoy applying it because it makes my skin look and feel better, not worse which is a first for me when it comes to sunscreens!

Currently, they're BOGO 50% off at Ulta, so it's a great time to stock up.

Have you tried Cotz? I'd love to hear about it!

Physicians Formula Hypoallergenic Lipsticks Review + Swatches

9
physicians formula 80th anniversary collection
Physicians Formula has just released their 80th Anniversary Collection and if you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen my unboxing of the new products. In the past few days, I've learned quite a bit about the company and was surprised to find out that it was actually started in 1937 by a doctor (an allergist named Dr. Frank Crandall). His wife was suffering from Lupus and was struggling to find cosmetics that didn't aggravate her sensitive skin, so he created the line for her (how sweet is that?).

Colourpop Is Launching at Sephora...Thoughts?

11
Photo: @colourpopcosmetics on Instagram

Colourpop Cosmetics will be launching at Sephora.com and a few select Sephora store locations this November for the Holiday season and to start, it will just be holiday collections and a few items but not everything from the line (they can't tell us specifically what will be available just yet).

They have assured their fans that the prices will not increase, which is great news! I'm also really excited because we will be able to return items that don't work out and we don't have to wait for Colourpop's slower shipping times (especially if you have Sephora Flash!).  And for those of you who live near one of the stores where it's sold (we don't know what those locations will be yet), you'll be able to swatch the shades before purchasing.

However, I do find it to be kind of a strange partnership. I would have pictured Colourpop fitting into Ulta's brand landscape a bit more since they carry everything from drugstore to high-end. These days, it seems like Sephora has become increasingly more high-end with the addition of brands like Natasha Denona, Viseart, and Tom Ford. So I find the partnership with Colourpop to be a very interesting turn of events!

What about you guys? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!
