Colourpop Cosmetics will be launching at Sephora.com and a few select Sephora store locations this November for the Holiday season and to start, it will just be holiday collections and a few items but not everything from the line (they can't tell us specifically what will be available just yet).
They have assured their fans that the prices will not increase, which is great news! I'm also really excited because we will be able to return items that don't work out and we don't have to wait for Colourpop's slower shipping times (especially if you have Sephora Flash!). And for those of you who live near one of the stores where it's sold (we don't know what those locations will be yet), you'll be able to swatch the shades before purchasing.
However, I do find it to be kind of a strange partnership. I would have pictured Colourpop fitting into Ulta's brand landscape a bit more since they carry everything from drugstore to high-end. These days, it seems like Sephora has become increasingly more high-end with the addition of brands like Natasha Denona, Viseart, and Tom Ford. So I find the partnership with Colourpop to be a very interesting turn of events!
What about you guys? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!
I also think this is very odd! Like you, I totally expected Ulta to be the one to start selling it. But hey, I'm just happy to finally be able to swatch things in person before I buy. That's a huge bummer about online-only brands so I'm happy that Colourpop will finally be in stores somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad too and hopefully if it's successful for Sephora, they'll roll it out to all stores. They tend to do that pretty often and "test" brands in a few stores first. :)
DeleteI don't have a sephora near me and I don't order from sephora. That along with the limited stock means I will just order from the colourpop website if I want their items. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteYeah, at this point if it's just the holiday items, I probably won't order them unless it's something I really want. At first it sounded like the entire brand was going to be sold there but then they clarified on Instagram stories. If they DO end up bringing the whole brand over I'll definitely order from Sephora over the Colourpop website because I like the option of being able to return items that don't work out and have faster shipping times. :)
DeleteIt does seem a bit odd to me. It is drugstore priced product, which I'm having trouble thinking of another brand like that at Sephora.
ReplyDeleteRight! I really don't think there are any other similar-priced brands there right now. Back when I worked at Sephora, we sold Hard Candy and Sugar Cosmetics but at the time their prices were higher than they are now (but they were still the lowest-priced items in the store). I've been getting the impression that they were trying to become more high-end in recent years to sort of set themselves apart from Ulta, so it's very unexpected. :)
DeleteWe'll that's weird.
ReplyDeleteRight?! Pretty much the last thing I was expecting to hear! :)
DeleteActually this doesn't make a difference to me. As I live in Portugal I won't be able to buy anything :(

I would have expected to see Color Pop show up some place like Urban Outfitters or even Forever 21 at some point, not really Sephora. But since close to me is a Sephora Inside JCP, I wouldn't expect to ever see anything in person. I would love to have access in stores because I do like the line but I have ordered a bunch of things and have been disappointed a lot more than if I had been able to play with them first.
ReplyDeleteLike everybody else, I would've expected to see this at Ulta... I'm actually disappointed, I don't shop at Sephora unless it's something like a Rainforest of the Sea palette I can't get at Ulta.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think Sephora might be feeling a little...threatened? by Ulta because Ulta has MAC now, they're adding more NARS to their inventory, plus a lot of other prestige and drugstore priced brands (online and in-store). Just my thought.
