March Favorites Day 11- Foundations

10
the best foundations
Day 11 of my March Favorites is all about foundation and today I'll be talking about my top pick from the drugstore as well as my favorite high-end formula. When it comes to choosing a foundation, the number one thing I look for is something that's hydrating and won't cling to dry patches or sink into my fine lines and pores. Back in the day, I used to wear very full coverage formulas but now that I'm 39, I like a more natural-looking formula that lets my skin show through a little bit. I've found that high-coverage, matte finishes tend to age me beyond my years so I try to avoid those now at all costs.

Let's take a look!

Favorite Foundation (high-end):

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream ($38)
This foundation has been my holy grail formula for about 2 years now and I've repurchased several times already. It claims to be full coverage and it can definitely get there if you build it up, but I've found that applying one thin layer gives me a nice medium coverage. The formula is heavenly if you have dry skin...it feels like you're applying a moisturizer and it doesn't sink into lines, accentuate pores, or cake up in dry patches. It has a nice dewy finish that makes my drier, dull skin look radiant and healthy. They do make an illuminating version, but I actually prefer the original. I also love that this contains an SPF of 50+ (physical sunblock, not chemical), because I've had skin cancer in the past and always try to be careful of sun exposure.

Available at Ulta. Sephora, QVC

Favorite Foundation (drugstore):

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint ($14.99)
When I first purchased this, the word "tint" in the name made me think that it wouldn't have a lot of coverage (like a tinted moisturizer) but it actually comes close to medium! It has the most amazing feel when you apply it...it feels like you're giving your skin a cool drink of water. It gives the most beautiful, no-makeup finish and no matter how much I build it up, it never looks like I'm wearing foundation. It also lasts a long time...most of the day, even if I don't set my face with powder. If you have dry or mature skin, give this one a try...I think you'll love it!

Available at Ulta, drugstores

What are your favorite foundations? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! :)

  1. What shade do you use for the Neutrogena and how do you apply it?

  2. Have you tried loreal true match lumi cushion (works like BB/CC cream) foundation compact? I really like the coverage and the dewy sheen it gives me. It's excellent for dry skin.

The only downfall is that it's pricey and the compact doesn't last very long...A month at most. But I love the coverage and the dewiness it gives me. So I'll keep repurchasing.

  3. I think my favorite is Maybelline Dewy & Smooth. I've yet to be super impressed by any high end foundations.

  4. I recently tried the It Cosmetics CC cream and it's amazing.
My favorite drugstore foundation is the Lumi foundation. I love the glow it gives and it feels like I'm not wearing makeup.

  5. I just recently purchased the Neutrogena Hydro Boost to try it out...I don't really have a drugstore foundation or CC/BB cream that I would recommend myself. Hopefully the Hydro Boost will work for me! I purchased the color "Soft Beige - 50". It is a TOUCH light for me...but I got a bit of sun recently. I will probably pick up the color "Natural Beige - 60" - to use as well. For me, I dot it on my face and then quickly, using my fingers, blend it in and then I use a damp beauty blender (tapping it on my face). Gives me a soft airbrushed look, which is great. It's sheer with just enough coverage...evens things out but your skin shows thru. I don't usually wear a lot of foundation and I prefer a sheer "your face but better" makeup look.

So many folks love IT Cosmetics and I strike out with their products. I couldn't get the IT Cosmetics CC cream to work for me...it was way too heavy/greasy, and the colors didn't work for my skin tone. The "medium" color was too light and the "tan" color was too dark. I found it to be too thick for my liking...unfortunately. The only thing that I like and would recommend of theirs is the "Bye Bye Pores Micro Powder".

I LOVED loved LOVED Urban Decay's "Naked Skin Beauty Balm"...and of course, they discontinued it (the product they created to replace it did not work for me at all). I do have a stash of the old product, but I'm looking for a new tinted moisturizer or light/sheer foundation. I am trying the Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer and it's okay...but I don't know if it will be my 'go to' product.

I do like the Too Faced "Born This Way" foundation...it's not super high coverage, but more than the UD Beauty Balm or the LM Tinted Moisturizer. I wear it at night if I'm going out, as it lasts a little longer than my other products. It blends beautifully. They have a great shade range...I wear the color "Natural Beige".

  7. Thanks so much! :D I discovered your Instagram/blog recently and I'm enjoying your posts. You've quickly become my new favorite because I can relate to your skin type and coloring, age, makeup preferences ect. There are other beauty bloggers I like too, but I can really apply your recommendations to my own life. If you remember, please include foundation shades in your posts (MOTD ect). That would be so helpful in trying new products since I think we are very close in color. Thanks again!
