So keep on reading to see my favorite bold highlighters, subtle highlighters, and highlighter palettes...
Favorite Bold Highlighter (high-end):
Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in So Hollywood ($28)
This is the creme de la creme of highlighters for me...I reach for this one over any other highlighter in my collection when I want a bold, in-your-face, noticeable highlight. The formula is super smooth with no chunkiness or glitter particles, just straight-up shine. Also, the golden shade is amazing because it leans more toward a champagne color than yellow-gold.
Available at Macy's and Anastasia Beverly Hills

Favorite Bold Highlighter (drugstore):
Makeup Revolution Skin Kiss ($9)
These are fairly new to me but have already earned a top spot in my highlighter rotation. These are so shiny and really make your cheeks pop with no chunky glitter, just a finely milled shimmer. Also, the formula is really soft and highly-pigmented. The pans are huge, so they'll last forever and allow you to get a large brush into them if you want to highlight certain places on your body such as collarbone, shoulders, and down the front of your legs.
Available at Ulta

Pur Cosmetics Afterglow Illuminating Powder ($25)
If you're looking for that soft, natural, lit-from-within glow, this powder is absolutely incredible. It's hard to tell from looking at a swatch, but it gives the most beautiful sheen to your skin without shimmer or glitter (it's also talc-free). The formula is really soft and it goes on so smooth and doesn't settle into fine lines or accentuate pores at all...I have even used it to brighten underneath my eyes!
Available at Ulta, Kohl's, Pur Cosmetics
Favorite Subtle Highlighter (drugstore):
Essence Pure Nude Highlighter ($4.49)
This highlighter is one of those hidden gems at the drugstore that really surprise you! The first time I swatched this I wasn't too impressed but once I tried it on my face, I was hooked. Just like the Pur Afterglow Powder this gives a soft, lit-from-within glow to your skin that isn't noticeable until the light catches your face. It makes your skin look naturally radiant and it isn't obvious that you're even wearing highlighter. This shade is a little deeper than the Pur version but I find that when it's on my face, it still works perfectly fine for my skin tone.
Available at Ulta
Favorite Highlighter Palette (high-end):Sephora Collection Illuminate Palette ($28)
Even though this pick is more mid-range than high-end, I love it just as much as any of the more expensive highlighter palettes out there. First of all, the color selection is great, particularly if you have fair to light skin (there's only one shade that's too dark for me to highlight with). Most of the illuminators in this palette give you more of a bold highlight, but it also includes two shades (white and cream) that have a satiny finish for a more subtle highlight. Every single shade is soft, pigmented, and blends beautifully on the skin, so that coupled with the shade selection and different finishes make this one a winner for me.
Available at Sephora.
Favorite Highlighter Palette (drugstore):
Flower Beauty Shimmer & Strobe ($14)
Where do I even start with this highlighter palette?? In a word, it's stunning. The formula is so incredibly smooth and silky and it adds a bold gleam to your skin that looks shiny, not sparkly. The first time I tried this, I couldn't believe it was a drugstore product (even though drugstore has vastly improved over the years). It rivals any high-end highlighters I've tried, hands down.
Available at Flower Beauty, Walmart (in-store only).
What are your favorite highlighters? Have you tried any of these? Let me know in the comments below! :)
I love the Pure Nude highlight from Essence, it's my HG. Even though that Pur one is a lot more expensive, I might like the color even better! I just started working at Kohls so I'm going to go and swatch it tomorrow when I get to work. P.S. I really like all of these favorites posts and look forward to them every day.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kat! I'm so happy you like them! Yes, the Pur one is fantastic and I think I like the color a little bit better too since I'm so fair. But for someone on a budget, the Essence one gives the same effect! :)
DeleteGreat picks!!! I too love Makeup Revolution highlighters. I find I'm pretty happy every time I pick one up from Ulta!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'm so happy they're finally in the U.S...they make high-quality affordable stuff for the most part. :)
DeleteI have dry skin and LOVE the Clinique chubby highlighter and the IT Cosmetics cream highlighter. I haven't found any good cream highlighters at the drugstore, though.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either of those but I agree that creams are great when you have dry skin. I need to check those out, thanks for the suggestions! :)
DeleteI also love highlights like Pur and Essence for a natural glow. One you HAVE to check out next time you're in Sephora is the Laura Mercier Baked Matte Radiance highlight. I have no idea why they call it matte (maybe because it's more natural). But it gives the same affect as Pur/Essence, but is actually an even lighter tone.
