In the meantime, I've been seeing a few "dupe" alternatives for the Subculture palette floating around social media, starting with the above photo of the Kara Cosmetics ES07 Palette. I posted the above photo from online retailer IKateHouse.com last night and the palette is now sold out on their website.
It is still available on the Kara Cosmetics website but it's a bit more expensive at $21.99...still half the price of Subculture though. I've never used Kara Cosmetics but have seen good reviews on YouTube and my feeling is that they seem to be very much like Morphe or Coastal Scents. It appears to have most of the same shades as Subculture plus quite a few more!
Finally, I was looking through my own collection to see if I could find anything similar to Subculture and came across the NYX Perfect Filter Palette in Olive You. It only has 10 shades (vs 14 in Subculture) but has a very similar vibe to it!
So what do you guys think? Did you buy Subculture or did you pass on it? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I was primed to get it for sure, then the reviews started rolling in. First ABH said there was nothing wrong with it but then they said there was indeed a problem with how the shadows were pressed. Reviews seem to be either one-star or five-star with not much in between. Those that love it claim those that hate it are stupid amateurs and don't know how to use it properly. So... way too much drama!! Not getting it. I personally think ABH has a huge PR problem on its hands and would have been better off recalling all the palettes and re-releasing them only when the problems with its formula and blending were fixed.
ReplyDeleteI have made my own sorta-dupe palette with Coastal Scents Hot Pots, which run ~$2 each. Also, thanks to your swatches, I ordered the Nyx palette shown above and it should be here next week.
I think I'll get that Kara palette soon. When I saw it on your Instagram last night I looked into it and it does look like a good option! I've had luck with morphe type palettes. I wanted the ABH palette but it's too much drama and the positive reviews I saw said that if you take your time and play with it it's okay but for $42 I don't want to have to spend time I don't have on a palette lol

ReplyDeleteUm let's not leave BH Cosmetics out of the mix! They have some awesome palettes at VERY reasonable prices!! They remind me of Morphe palettes 😍
