Physicians Formula Hypoallergenic Lipsticks Review + Swatches

Physicians Formula has just released their 80th Anniversary Collection and if you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen my unboxing of the new products. In the past few days, I've learned quite a bit about the company and was surprised to find out that it was actually started in 1937 by a doctor (an allergist named Dr. Frank Crandall). His wife was suffering from Lupus and was struggling to find cosmetics that didn't aggravate her sensitive skin, so he created the line for her (how sweet is that?). 

The very first product he created was the Hypoallergenic Lipstick and Physicians Formula has just recreated that formula for their 80th anniversary in four shades ($6.95 each). They come in sleek silver packaging with a clear cap and a flat-shaped bullet (which reminds me of the new Estee Lauder Pure Color lipsticks). 

The formula is nicely pigmented, very creamy and feels great on the lips. I found them to be lightweight and non-sticky with a satiny finish. They also have no scent or flavor, which I love! I definitely don't mind if a lipstick has a vanilla-type scent (I can't stand florals or perfumes!) but no scent is even better.

The formula isn't transfer-proof so it will come off when eating/drinking/kissing but I was able to get several hours of wear out of these regardless. It took me a minute to get used to the squared-off bullet but I quickly realized that you can use the sharp edges to outline your lips and get into smaller spaces.

Here I'm wearing all four shades and despite the limited color selection, I thought they did a great job choosing really flattering tones. I would definitely wear any of these shades, depending on the event and time of year (although most days I would opt for the Nude and maybe the Coral in the summer).

My one and only complaint with these lipsticks is with the packaging. The bullet doesn't wind down all the way, so I end up knicking off some of the lipstick every time I remove the cap.

Still, these are beautiful lipsticks at a nice price with a lovely story behind them!
