Just like the Cheek Palette, I'm really impressed by the packaging. It's prettier in person than it looked in the photos I saw on social media...the black and gold color scheme with a star background and large golden compass is perfect for this collection. The palette is made of cardboard so it's lightweight but it is rather chunky so if you don't have a lot of room to store palettes, keep that in mind.

But there's a reason it's so chunky... it has a secret compartment underneath that holds the cheek palette! So if you're getting both, it actually makes storing them more efficient, not to mention I tend to geek out about things like this, haha.  If you don't want to buy the cheek palette, you can always store some smaller makeup items in there that you might want to use with the palette, such as single blushes, brushes, or liners/brow products. That way it's not a total waste of space.

Shade Selection/Formula/Swatches:

There are 18 shades in both matte and shimmer finishes and the formula is that soft, buttery PRO formula we know and love. This palette seemed even softer to me, for some reason and a few shades actually arrived broken (I saw the UPS man slam it down hard on my front steps...ugh).

The matte shades glide on effortlessly with full pigment in one swipe. The shimmer shades are also stunning and easy to pick up.

My favorite shades include:

  • Black Pearl (top row, 2nd shade from the right)- this shimmer shade looks almost black in the pan but it has a beautiful emerald green shift that's gorgeous.
  • Arrgh! (top row, 3rd shade from the right)- this is a really pretty olive green shimmer and I don't have anything like it in my collection.
  • Treasure (middle row, 3rd shade from the left)- this is a beautiful rust-colored shade that is incredibly pigmented with one swipe and has a satiny finish. I was blown away when I swatched it...it's one of the most pigmented shades in the palette (and they're all very pigmented).
  • Tell No Tales (middle row, 4th shade from the left)- this matte plum shade would create a really pretty smoky eye look.
  • Menace (bottom row, 2nd from the right)- this is a deep hunter green matte that also blew me away when I swatched it. For a matte, it went on so evenly, with full pigment. I also don't have a deep green like this in my collection.
  • Silent Mary (bottom row, all the way to the right)- this is a really soft medium gray matte that I can see myself using to create lots of cooler-toned looks.

Overall, do you need this palette?  I wasn't actually planning on buying it myself because at first glance the shades didn't appeal to me, but now that I've had the chance to play with it, there are quite a few standout shades in here that I really love (and many more that are also basic everyday shades that I would definitely use). So the question to ask yourself is if you love the shade selection...if you do, then picking this one up is a no-brainer. The formula is top-of-the-line...highly pigmented, soft, and blendable...it really it just comes down to the colors.

Available now at LoracCosmetics.com and arriving at Ulta.com and Kohls.com on April 16th.

  1. Wow, you're the first blogger I've read with swatches of this palette, congrats on the scoop! I don't think I've ever seen a palette that had a space for another full-size item that's sold separately, which is cool but which would also make me feel like I'm missing something if I didn't buy the cheek palette. Maybe one could put a different cheek palette in there.

Anyway, didn't think I wanted this one until your swatches, curse you with a pirate curse. A good-quality matte dark hunter green, that is SO hard to find. And I love the matte medium gray. Let's see, I could wait a few days and use my 20% off coupon at Ulta....

    1. Thanks!Hahaha a pirate curse! :) Wow I'm surprised that there aren't more swatches out there! I figured I'd get them up quickly since it's launching at Ulta this weekend and that 20% is out there.

  2. Okay Jen, I was ready to NOT buy this but now I'm back to debating. That Black Pearl shade and Treasure are so gorg. And three green shades?? I would use the olive, pale green, AND that beautiful matte deep hunter green. That being said it IS a large palette to buy for a handful of shades I'm really crazy about. I would use most of the other shades though, as they are very wearable. They're just dupe-able and I'm sure I have similar ones in other palettes. I don't know! Help me decide!

    1. Hmm...I can't really say but I if you think you'll use the majority of the shades, I say go for it because the formula is so amazing. :)

  3. Oh you wicked wench! ;-) Just kidding, Jen. Lorac was smart in sending this to you since your swatches have made me re-think the possibility of getting it. I thought for sure it was a pass but now I'm not too sure...although I really shouldn't. It looks kind of bulky and the side draw thing annoys me as if it's sole purpose is to encourage buying the blush palette. -- Christina D.

    P.S. Happy Easter to you!

  4. I wish the palette were half the size, in both directions. Big cardboard palettes with tons of room between pans look and feel really cheap and cumbersome to me, even if the shades are nice.

  5. The packaging is beautiful however the colors are a little disappointing. Even with swatches taking none of the colors stood out to me. This will be a pass for me

  6. I'm so glad you got your reviews up! I was gonna order it from Loracs website but I haveee to read reviews first and see swatches. I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan and I can't wait to see this movie so I was probably gonna buy it but reviews are just part of the beauty buying process for me lol. Also I am gonna pick up the face palette too. Especially after your swatches! I've never tried loracs blushes or highlighter and I think it's a good deal too! Kinda torn as to if I should buy it now or wait for Ulta...I have a few points I can use towards it and there's other things I'd like from Ulta...and can get cash back from ebates...guess I better wait! Lol
